International Slocum Glider Training Course at SOCIB and IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) facilities

SOCIB and IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) hosted an International Slocum Glider Training Course, April, 18th-22nd, 2016. The event, that took place in between Esporles (Glider Facilities at IMEDEA's building) and the Bay of Palma (field-session on board SOCIB Catamaran), gathered 14 international students (from USA, Finland, UK, Brazil and Spain) and 2 instructors from Teledyne Webb Research. Out of those students, 2 SOCIB members became certified pilots. Additionally, previously certified users also had the opportunity to participate in a pilot-course to cover advanced topics including complex repairs and maintenance, missions, flying techniques and sensors such as ADCP. The results were very positive and all objectives were accomplished . Multiple ideas of future collaboration were put on the table as well as the intention to discuss them during the forthcoming EGO meeting in London late this year.
