SOCIB participated in the EGU General Assembly 2016

SOCIB participated in the EGU General Assembly 2016, held in Vienna during 17-22 April 2016, within the framework of three key research projects: Medclic, EMODnet and CMEMS. In the session “Informatics in Oceanography and Ocean Science”, SOCIB contributed in two oral communications and one poster. The first communication presented the EMODnet MedSea Checkpoint within the context of the Marine Knowledge 2020 and other EMODnet activities [1]. The second communication presented the In Situ Thematic Assembly Centre (INSTAC) from the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS). The INSTAC distributed service integrates in situ data from different sources for operational oceanography needs [2]. Finally, the poster illustrated the Medclic project, with a focus on the main activities delivered by the SOCIB Data Centre [3].

In addition, David March from SOCIB also participated in the Scientific Steering Committee of the special session: “Assess the fitness for use or adequacy of the existing marine monitoring system” [4]. In such meeting, the members from the EMODnet MedSea Checkpoint presented the current status of the web portal and services to get feedback from the user throughout the launch of an online survey. SOCIB was also present in the EGU2016-3299 poster, "Glider and satellite high resolution monitoring of a mesoscale eddy in the Algerian basin: effects on the mixed layer depth and biochemistry" by Yuri Cotroneo et al. [5].
